Here's a brief look at the Patriot coaching staff for 2009.

After 4 seasons leading
the JV program, Coach Klug
begins his 5th at Old Mill
taking over the helm of Patriot
Soccer as Varsity Head Coach. He
returns to team comprised mainly
of players that have developed
considerably under his
leadership at the JV level. A
1998 graduate of Northeast High
School, Coach Klug was a captain
and earned
All-County honors. As an All-JUCO
sweeper of the Anne Arundel
Community College Pioneers, he
earned a 2-year degree in
Physical Education and then
moved on to the University of
Maryland, College Park,
graduating in 2003 with a B.S.
degree in Physical Education.
"I'm excited to step into this
new role and help continue to
build on the high expectations
left after nine exceptional
seasons under Coach Martin,"
Coach Klug explained. "We
have a good group of kids and
there is no reason we can't
continue to compete each year in
the top half of our league." |

Assistant Coach
Matt Postell

Postell) |
Coach Postell begins his 4th
year with the Patriots as an
Assistant to the program.
His easy going attitude and very
genuine dedication to the
players in our program has made
him a player favorite on the
staff. Coach Postell is
extremely active with our
student-athletes in the
classroom and spends hours of
his personal time tutoring and
mentoring the young men in our
program to help them achieve
their scholastic best.
Coach Postell possesses
tremendous skill in
communicating with high school
aged athletes in a way that
encourages a two-way
relationship that has proven key
the success he's helped kids
forge during his short time
within the program. "Coach
has been a great addition to our
staff, helping to keep an
appropriate balance between our
goals for our kids athletically
and the important strides our
kids need to make in the
classroom," added Coach Martin.

Volunteer Assistant Coach
Pat Delaney

Delaney)
|
Coach Delaney is entering his
3rd season as a part of the
coaching staff at Old Mill but
is very familiar with the
Patriot soccer program. An
integral part of the turn around
of the Old Mill program in the
late 1990's, Coach Delaney has
returned with an eye for
excellence.
Playing club ball for Graham
Ramsay, MSYSA's Director of
Soccer Development, Coach
Delaney had the benefit of
tremendous coaching and exposure
as a result of numerous trips to
soccer hotbeds in Europe, South America,
and Asia. Coach Delaney then went on to play
as a midfielder for LeMoyne College in Syracuse New
York. After a very
successful college career,
Delaney moved on to play several
seasons with the Syracuse Salty
Dogs in the Professional
Developmental League (PDL),
which is where he developed his
affinity for coaching. |

Volunteer Assistant Coach
Joe McNally
(click above to e-mail Coach
McNally) |
Coach McNally is in his 10th
year as an assistant to the
program. Another former
Patriot player giving back
to the program, McNally
finds time in between shifts
as a DC Firefighter to
return to Old Mill to do
whatever it takes to
continue the growth of our
program. He loves the game
and enjoys working with the
kids to help them become
better players. "Listen, I
was one of those players who
made a living off of
outworking the other team.
If you play hard and smart,
that can push you over the
top," McNally described
himself. Making the
All-County team in 1995 was
a tribute to his work ethic
and hard-nosed play. "One
of the toughest defenders
we've ever had in the
program," added Coach
Davis. Coach McNally's easy
going demeanor keeps things
fun at practice, but make no
mistake, his fierce
competitive spirit is what
keeps him at Old Mill,
contributing to our success. |

Volunteer Assistant Coach
Ed Davis

Davis) |
Starting
his 15th season as an Assistant at Old Mill, Coach Davis is known for
an intense demeanor on the field, and a fiery competitiveness that helps to
drive players to be their best. Also a former player at Old Mill,
Davis played goalkeeper at UMBC and is a USSF licensed coach, heavily
involved in the club community. While
his pedigree is training and developing goalkeepers, Coach Davis also has a
keen eye for the overall game and focuses on teaching the ABC's of soccer.
The little nuances and details that help to develop an all-around player.
Davis describes his theory pretty clearly: "It's a very simple game that a
lot of people try to complicate. We just want the guys to stay within
their own capabilities and let the ball do the work. We always have
some of the best athletes in the
county, our challenge is to make
sure we play the game
intelligently." Davis believes
strongly in building a program that values its' history. A program
that is a privilege to be a part of, and an honor to give back to. |
