TOWSON, Md. - Former 2004
All-State back Tim McMullen was honor last week as the only member
of his team at Goucher College (Towson, Md.) to be named to the
All-Landmark Conference Team.
McMullen is a 3-year starter for the Gophers of Goucher, and was the
second leading scorer on the year, helping the team to an overall
record of 7-8-2.
"Timmy's work ethic and toughness translates well onto the college
level because of the athleticism and physicality," pointed out Coach
Martin. "It's the never-ending story of the guys who work the
hardest going on to become successful. No one outworks Timmy
McMullen."
During his career at Old Mill, Tim played all over the field for the
Patriots, with an affinity for defending. His physical
presence on the field led to extensive playing time for him as a
Sophomore, and resulted in McMullen playing key roles in defense for
both State Finals teams in 2003 and 2004.
"The story I tell about Timmy all the time to our kids now is of him
showing up to practice with a Flack Jacket on under his practice
jersey," laughed Coach Davis. "The guy had broken ribs, and he
and his Dad strapped him up so he wouldn't miss a practice before
the South River game. He played in the game, which we won 2-1
in overtime, and never mentioned any pain or missed a practice all
year. That was the type of leadership Timmy and the rest of
the seniors in 2004 brought to the team."
McMullen will finish off his college soccer career next fall at
Goucher, hoping to continue helping to build a program that loses
just 4 seniors this year.
